We all live by stories about who we are, what we’re capable of and what life expects from us…… But most of these stories weren’t consciously chosen. They were shaped by our conditioning, upbringing, culture and external expectations.
The good news?
You can rewrite them.
That’s where archetypes, narrative psychology and Human Design come together…its a combination of ancient wisdom and modern psychology that helps us see the patterns we’ve been living by and consciously choose new ones.
Archetypes: The Patterns Beneath Our Personality
Archetypes are universal patterns of behavior like the Hero, Caregiver or Rebel that live within the collective human psyche. Originally introduced by Carl Jung, these archetypes aren’t just abstract ideas; they show up in our daily lives through our choices, relationships, and reactions.
When you understand your archetype, you begin to recognize your inner motivations and the narratives that drive your behavior.
The Hero may always feel the need to prove themselves.
The Caregiver might put others first to feel valued.
The Rebel might push against authority to find freedom.
Each archetype carries both shadow and potential. Knowing which one you’re living out gives you the awareness to shift from unconscious patterning into conscious choice.
Narrative Psychology: Changing the Script
Narrative psychology takes this further. It’s the study of how the stories we tell ourselves shape our identity and behavior.
For example, if your inner story is “I always have to be strong,” you’ll naturally suppress vulnerability, even when connection requires it. If your story is “I’m not enough,” you’ll over-work or over-give to earn “worthiness”.
When we bring awareness to those inner narratives, we can re-frame them.
“I always have to be strong” can become “I’m strong enough to be real.”
“I’m not enough” transforms into “I’m learning to see my worth beyond doing.”
This process of story re-framing has evidence-based benefits: it improves emotional regulation, reduces anxiety and supports behavior change. It’s not just self-help language…..it’s psychology in action.
Human Design: The Blueprint of Energy and Decision-Making
Human Design adds another powerful layer to this understanding. While archetypes and narrative psychology explore why we act the way we do, Human Design reveals how our energy naturally operates.
Think of it as a personalized map for alignment that blends astrology, quantum physics, genetics and psychology. Your design offers insight into your decision-making process, energy type and how you’re meant to exchange energy with the world.
Generators thrive when doing what lights them up.
Projectors flourish when they guide rather than hustle.
Manifestors are here to initiate and lead.
Reflectors amplify and mirror the health of their environment.
When you combine this energetic understanding with psychological tools, you stop trying to force yourself into boxes that were never meant for you. Instead, you learn to work with your energy, not against it.
It’s Not All “Woo-Woo” ..It’s Integration
There’s a misconception that systems like Human Design or archetypes are “woo-woo” or purely spiritual. But when used intentionally, they align with modern psychological principles:
Self-awareness: Archetypes and Human Design both mirror core aspects of personality and cognitive patterns similar to frameworks used in behavioral psychology and coaching.
Behavioral change: Awareness of one’s design helps create sustainable lifestyle and career choices, preventing burnout and increasing intrinsic motivation.
Somatic and emotional regulation: Many Human Design and archetypal insights connect directly with nervous system awareness and emotional intelligence.
Identity integration: Both systems promote self-acceptance and coherence—the psychological hallmark of well-being.
In other words, the “woo” has roots in real, evidence-based growth work. It’s not about predicting your fate…it’s about understanding your nature.
When You Know Your Story, You Lead Your Life
When archetypes reveal the themes of your story, narrative psychology teaches you to rewrite the script and Human Design shows you how to live it in alignment.
This integration creates what I call “self-alignment by design” it’s the process of reconnecting to your authentic blueprint so you can live, lead, and love from wholeness instead of conditioning.
It’s the difference between living re-actively and living intentionally. Between repeating old stories and authoring your next chapter.
The question isn’t “Who am I supposed to be?”
It’s “Who was I before I learned to be someone else?”
When you understand your archetype, your design, and your story—you stop trying to fit in, and start remembering who you’ve always been.
That’s not just personal growth.
That’s psychological liberation.
