We often celebrate growth ...new goals, new mindsets, new achievements ....but we rarely talk about what it feels like when growth is actually happening.
Whether you call it a “spiritual awakening,” a personal evolution, or simply a period of deep change, this process is often messy, uncomfortable and hard to put into words. From a psychological perspective, it’s a form of identity reorganization a point where the old version of you can no longer sustain who you’re becoming.
It’s not mystical. It’s biology, psychology and energy all working together to help you align more closely with your authentic self. In Human Design terms, it’s the process of de-conditioning ...releasing what was learned, expected or performed, so you can operate from who you actually are.
And while it sounds beautiful in theory, it often comes with a very real physical and emotional toll.
Perhaps you are in a growth or transformation phase ... Here are a few signs you may be "waking up"
1. Fatigue and Needing More Rest When the mind and body re-calibrate, energy gets redirected. Think of it like an internal upgrade ... your system needs more rest to integrate change.
2. Anxiety or Heightened Fear Growth often triggers uncertainty. As your sense of control loosens, anxiety can surface ... not because something’s wrong, but because you’re moving beyond what’s familiar.
3. Aches and Pains Our bodies hold stories. When you start letting go of old narratives, tension patterns often release too ... sometimes through discomfort before relief.
4. Forgetfulness or Mental Fog Periods of transition activate different parts of the brain. As intuition and creativity turn up, short-term memory can temporarily glitch.
5. Shifts in Passion or Purpose You might lose motivation for things that once lit you up. It’s not burnout ... it’s alignment. You’re simply outgrowing what no longer resonates.
6. Emotional Waves Old emotions resurface as they’re processed out of the system. This can look like crying for “no reason,” sudden sadness, or even deep gratitude.
7. Changing Relationships As you evolve, some relationships fall away naturally. This isn’t failure ...it’s energetic mismatch. When values shift, connections re-calibrate.
8. Sleep Disruptions Restlessness, vivid dreams, or 3 a.m. awakenings can be your mind and body integrating new awareness.
9. Heightened Sensitivity Your awareness sharpens. You may notice energy, emotion, or detail more acutely... not hypersensitivity, but deeper perception.
10. Digestive or Skin Changes The gut and skin often reflect internal change. Emotional processing can temporarily show up through digestion or skin eruptions as the body releases stored tension.
11. Cravings or Weight Shifts When you’re ungrounded, food can become an anchor. Changes in appetite or weight are often your body’s way of finding stability during transition.
12. Feeling Younger or Lighter Letting go of old emotional weight can literally make you look and feel lighter. Alignment is the best anti-aging tool there is.
13. Vivid Dreams or Insights Dreams may hold symbolic messages or mirror subconscious integration. They’re often where the deeper work gets processed.
Why This Matters — Especially in a Professional Context
These aren’t random symptoms .... they’re signs of an internal update. When people begin to operate from greater alignment, their nervous system, beliefs, and identity all shift.
In business and leadership, this process matters because it impacts:
Decision-making: greater clarity, less reactivity
Leadership: leading from authenticity rather than ego
Team dynamics: better emotional awareness and communication
Sustainability: less burnout, more resilience
Growth isn’t just mindset work ... it’s a full-body re-calibration. The more we understand the human side of transformation, the more we can support ourselves (and others) through it consciously rather than resisting it.
A "Spiritual Awakening" isn’t about being “spiritual” ... it’s about being human. Transformation is uncomfortable because you’re outgrowing your old conditioning. Whether you call it awakening, alignment or simply evolution, it’s your system’s way of moving you closer to truth.
